After an already long week in Ibiza that included; a wedding, a stag and various clubs I was quite tired come Thursday. Opting for an early disco nap, I set my alarm for 02:30. Feeling refreshed and after having an ice cold cider I boarded the Discobus to Playa D’en Bossa to check out Afterlife @ Hï Ibiza.
It was the first time I’d visited Hï in its current form, having last been on site when the venue was known as Space in 2015. I found the revamped and renamed club looking slick and futuristic from the outside, a taster of what I would find within.

The line up for Afterlife included; hosts Tale of Us, Detroit legend Robert Hood, AME and Thugfucker. Upon entering the club we head straight for the main room, called the Theatre. The room is impressive, with a powerful L-Acoustics sound system, phenomenal moving lights and probably the most dazzling laser show I’ve ever seen. Above the DJ booth hangs the Afterlife logo, an oversized model of a man suspended upside down.

The music in the main room is ethereal, space-age Techno. Melodic arpeggios propped up by a wall of solid bass and percussion. Tracks like the Fideles Remix Tim Engelhardt’s “Beyond Time” and an unidentified, brooding progressive remix of ABBA’s “SOS” sound particularly good. The main room is packed but not uncomfortably so.
Moving into the Club Room, it is a much different affair with Robert Hood at the helm. Robert Hood isn’t messing around, his set is full on, four to floor Techno. Definitely not for the faint hearted. Go hard or go home as they say. The Club Room is much darker than The Theatre and the vibe seems much more intense. Hood takes the atmosphere to pressure cooker proportions and pushes the sound system to its limit.
Afterwards, its time to hop on the Discobus for the return journey to San Antonio. As I head home, I gather my thoughts on Hï Ibiza after my first visit. It’s a very impressive club, with a very good sound system that retains clarity and punch at really high levels. You would be hard pushed to find a more stunning lighting rig in a club anywhere on the planet. Hi Ibiza really have really set the benchmark for 21st century clubbing on the island. Go check it out and enjoy!
