Now in it’s 17th year, Ultra Music Festival (UMF) 2016 was held in Downtown Miami in Bayfront Park on March 18, 19, and 20. Featuring the likes of Eric Prydz, Afrojack, Armin van Buuren, Avicii, Carl Cox, Dash Berlin, David Guetta, deadmau5, Hardwell, Kaskade, Martin Garrix, DJ Snake, Steve Angello, Tiësto, Zedd, and others it was a big line up of electronic talent.

We attended on the last day of the festival; Sunday March 20th. Upon entry, we were greeted by the vast scale of the event. The production, lasers, lights, set up and sound were all top notch. All of the stages were outdoor and covered, which was handy as it was lashing down with rain. Our first experience of Ultra was walking through the front gates to the sound of Sam Veldt playing his big track of summer 2015, Show Me Love. It was a case of big EDM tunes on the main stages.
We headed over to the A State Of Trance tent to catch Deadmau5’s set. He rocked it played some brilliant and beautiful progressive trance, before ending on Motörhead – Ace Of Spades in tribute to Lemmy, who had died earlier in the year.

Next up in the ASOT tent/stage was Eric Prydz. Standing in the rain listening to the glorious progressive and techno sounds of Prydz whilst his striking green lasers struck down on us was simply perfect. He played the beautifully melodic Magma – Agents Of Time, before creating THE moment of Ultra 2016 when he ended his set on Opus. The crowd was delirious.

When day turned to night the setting became even more beautiful. We had a blast at Ultra. The amazing colours, different nationalities and excellent music made it an incredible atmosphere. A unique festival set in the middle of Miami, surrounded by high rise buildings and architecture. The lights, lasers and production were second to none, and even the rain added to the occasion. A festival that needs to be seen to be believed.
