The last time we saw The Libertines they were rocking Ibiza Rocks 10th Birthday gig back on a scorching summer’s night in San Antonio. Doherty had a ripped shirt and broken guitar from the off, it was complete mayhem. It was an excellent gig that will be remembered on the island for years to come.
Fast forward to a cold and rainy January in Manchester, and a sell out crowd in Manchester Arena for the band’s UK Arena tour. It may not have been as raucous as Ibiza, but it was a brilliant and professional performance none the less.

Their set list comprised of tracks from their new album “Anthems For Doomed Youth” such as ‘Barbarians’, ‘Gunga Din’, ‘Fame & Fortune’, ‘Belly Of The Beast’ and ‘Heart Of The Matter’ as well as a load of their well known classics; ‘Boys In The Band’, ‘What Katie Did’, ‘Can’t Stand Me Now’ and ‘Time For Heroes’ – all getting great reactions, before they ended on ‘Don’t Look Back Into The Sun’ which blew the roof off.
The Libertines @ Manchester Arena comprised of a swaying bouncing crowd to the backdrop of a live cinematic screen complete with great tracks past and present that evoked great energy. Doherty and Barat have a brilliant on stage presence – an unbeatable lead duo that are clearly still best mates on stage. On tonight’s showing, The Libertines are very much a band still on top of their game.
