It’s a busy queue for Ibiza Rocks tonight, and coupled with the fact that it’s hot hot hot in Ibiza tonight means only one thing, – tonight’s edition of Ibiza Rocks with The Kooks is going to be big!
We love nights like tonight at this open air venue; a great English crowd, a festival atmosphere, and the crowd tanned up and ready for a good old sing along from one of the best bands the UK has recently produced.
A British rock band formed in Brighton ten years ago, The Kooks have achieved good success with their catchy and anthemic tracks, one of which they played early in their set – Around Town, a track from new album Listen. They followed this with Naïve, an absolute Kooks classic, which the crowd lapped up, before slowing things down with the melodic Melody Maker and Seaside. Next up was perhaps their biggest ever track, She Moves In Her Own Way, which, if there was a roof on Ibiza Rocks, would have been torn right off. The place bounced. As it did too for Do You Wanna, which they finished on before heading off stage. The crowd were chanting, “we want more, we want more.”
They came back out to a rapturous applause, ending on Ooh La (through it all she was such a good girl to me), and the excellent new track Westside, which has the infectious lyrics “we can settle down and start a family, cos you’re my best friend.”
The Kooks tonight played a mixture of new and old tracks, slow and fast, melodic and hands in the air anthems. This was a great, complete set under the Ibiza stars. They have so much energy and presence on stage. We’ve been to many gigs in Ibiza and this was one of the best – this is testament to the Ibiza Rocks brand and their strong line ups, they’re spot on every time. They know their crowd and they give them what they want. We were at Ibiza Rocks earlier in the season for the Lily Allen gig, which again was brilliant, and having seen on MTV Live the recent Jake Bugg, Ed Sheeran and Bastille gigs from Ibiza Rocks they were equally as rocking as tonight’s offering. We can’t wait to see what line ups they can have to offer for us in 2015 for their 10th season on the island. Bring it on!
