Walking into the tech house mecca of Sankeys is always going to be a treat for any techno lover like me. The place oozes with sweat from the hard core ravers who are all about the music and the creatures of the night who go there for a safe place to don sunglasses! For me it’s all about the music and what a treat to have Steve Lawler there for one of his two appearances at Warriors this summer – he’s headed over to Hï for a new residency on Thursdays at In The Dark.
First up in the Basement were Bristol lads Waifs & Strays, hot off their November release ‘Work Your Body Girl’ on VIVa Limited label with head honcho Steve Lawler at the helm. They dropped a few familiar favourites to get the crowd pumped for what was in store. We popped across to the Lab to check out Jamie Roy who has been making waves in Ibiza this summer with a residency at Warriors and Darius Syrossian’s newest residency and San Antonio’s biggest pool party success story Cuckoo Land on Sundays at Ibiza Rocks Hotel. Jamie was playing a mix of tech house bangers.

Back to the main room where Darius Syrossian was nicely warming up the crowd. I’ve loved watching his career grow from a relative unknown 5 years ago, to the massive headliner he is today with Warriors and Cuckoo Land under his belt. Kicking off with tech house tracks like Bodyjack’s ‘Hydra Effect’ and Diego Krause’s ’Gratitude’ the crowd were loving it when he was throwing in the Warriors head bands! He then turned up the heat dropping banger after banger like Sven Tasnadi’s ‘Train’, CamelPhat’s ‘Lizard King’ and Paul Woolford’s ‘Meditate’. The whole place was truly rocking by this point!!! Faces were getting scrunched and legs were getting wobblier!!! The excitement was electric and it felt good to be home!

A quick dip into the Lab to check out Route 94 who has had a good amount of commercial success in the UK and is soon to release a new EP ‘House & Pressure’ on Hot Creations which is getting a lot of love on the island! We had to return to see the insatiable Steve Lawler do his thing back in the Basement. His energy is always on point and it’s undeniable why he’s so well regarded on this island, he changes with the times and always keeps his sets fresh! Some absolute smashers were dropped like ‘Can U Feel It (Jhonsson remix)’ by Sanchez & Narvaez and Simon Lberali’s ‘Panameras’. But my favourite moment was him smashing out ‘Bird’ by Chris Main into ‘It’s My Hat’ by Chris Main… Big!!!!
All in all a bloody great night and a fantastic start to the Viva Warriors season!
