Here at Uneek Ibiza, we’re big fans of KC And The Sunshine Band. We seen them perform at the Hard Rock Cafe in Hollywood, Florida in March 2016 when we were over in Miami for Miami Winter Music Conference, and it’s one of those classic gigs that will forever etch in the memory. Famed for such massive tracks as “Give It Up,” and 7 songs that hit number 1 in the U.S., “Shake, Shake, Shake, Shake Your Booty,” “Get Down Tonight,” “That’s The Way I Like it,” “Boogie Shoes,” and many others! KC and the guys are about to embark on a world tour, including touring the UK for the first time in 18 years with recent dates in London. Here below is a review of a recent gig in Florida before the world tour started by Trisha Griffin.

Harry Casey, otherwise known as KC of KC and the Sunshine Band of Hialeah, Florida – rocked his hometown on Friday, May 12, 2017 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida as he does every spring. The Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area awaited his annual appearance and once again K C did not disappoint. As a family member myself, I know their songs and others like myself grew up listening to the self-proclaimed King of Disco, but there is something about a live performance that brings back memories and gets you moving. You can’t help but want to “put on your boogie shoes and party with the Boogie Man!”

The doors at the Hard Rock opened, the lights dimmed and that familiar disco sound began in the background. The band came out and played a compilation of old hits, the talented dancers follow, and finally the main event began with the #1 hit single Shake Your Booty featuring Harry on the keyboards. Who doesn’t know the words to this old favorite? Of course, after the long wait the entire audience is on their feet and singing along.

Harry came on the mic and gave a shout out to his loyal hometown attendees, the show went straight into more old favorites including Boogie Shoes, from the #1 album KC & THE SUNSHINE BAND and the Saturday Night Fever movie soundtrack, which most people might not know led KC to be honored with a Grammy Award for Producer of the Year in 1978 for his work on the album. The rest of the evening proceeded with more hits such as Boogie Man, Rock Me Baby, That’s the Way I like It, and Get Down Tonight.

The show would not have been complete without the spinning disco ball high above the stage, the high-powered grooves from the band members including trumpets, trombones, saxophones, and master percussionist Fermin Goytisolo, as well as the high-energy dancers featuring Janell Burgess and Maria DeCrescenzo.

As K C ‘s Niece of course I’m biased, but it’s true to say your mood and energy instantly changes in the presence of this talented band that formed in 1973 – you truly can’t help but to get up and shake your booty! Don’t miss an opportunity to see them in person, it’s worth the workout and you will leave the show feeling happy.
