On Friday March 11th Uneek Ibiza boarded the Virgin Atlantic flight from London Heathrow to JFK New York City. Mark and myself were en route to the States as Media Partners to the Miami Winter Music Conference, but having never been to NYC before, and having been offered to DJ at a cool underground club in Brooklyn, we didn’t need asking twice to detour to NYC before heading to Miami.
That cool underground club was A/V Bushwick, and after a brilliant Saturday afternoon watching Everton beat Chelsea in the FA Cup Quarter Final with the very welcoming NYC EFC supporters club in the excellent Mr Dennehy’s Irish Pub (a must for any Evertonian in NYC – thanks to James and Marc), and a disco snooze, we headed to Bushwick at around 2.30am with promoter Andrew.

A/V Bushwick like to switch up their venues on a weekly basis, and keep it a secret till as late as possible before sending out an email to those on their newsletter list at around midnight, just a few hours before the party starts. I was playing 3-5am, and after meeting A/V Bushwick promoter Memo, as well as friends Sam and his fiancé Amanda who had come out to party, I headed straight to the decks. The Loft room that we were playing in only opened at 3am, but quickly filled up with clubbers wanting techno beats. Some of the tracks I played included the likes of; Camel Phat – Constellations, Emma Jai – Chymequixote, my own tracks Carioca, Balti Exotica and New Star, Alan Fitzpatrick – Love Siren and The Chemical Brothers – Wide Open (Kolsch remix). I had a great time playing, and the crowd were brilliant. We’d definitely recommend any techno lovers to attend A/V Bushwick when in New York City.

We loved the rest of our trip in the Big Apple. On the Sunday we watched NYC FC take on Toronto FC at the Yankees Stadium, before checking out the city from a way up top the Empire State Building. On the Monday we visited Ground Zero and The Statue Of Liberty, and on the Tuesday we headed to Times Square and Central Park, before ending our trip with drinks with friend Renee and then seeing the legend that is Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden. To be able to see the sights, experience the high octane and busy vibe, meet new friends and to get to DJ at a wicked club, it really was a dream come true. NYC we will be back. Thank you.
