Ibiza 2014 has been and gone, but what a brilliant season it was on the White Isle! The clubs, events, DJs, sunsets, people and atmosphere made it one of the best summers in Ibiza in recent history. Here’s just some of our favourite things about Ibiza 2014…
1. Radio 1 Ibiza weekend
Radio 1 Ibiza weekend 2014, the biggest weekend of the year, on best party island in the world, it doesn’t get much better. Held on August 1-3, events were hosted at Ushuaia, Privilege and Café Mambo with massive line ups full of the world’s biggest DJs, all of which were broadcast live on BBC Radio 1. Great DJs, music, venues and crowds – everyone had a smile on their face and with next year’s Ibiza Radio 1 weekend being their 20th anniversary, expect even bigger and better things!
2. Playa d’en Bossa
Home to super clubs Ushuaia and Space, summer 2014 Playa d’en Bossa was busier and more popular than ever. On the beach itself, Jet apartments and Bora Bora were the main beach bars booming out house tracks alongside people partying away and enjoying the vibe; thousands of tanned bodies soaking up the sun and enjoying the Balearic beats. An afternoon spent here enjoying the music, sun and atmosphere is well worth it!
3. Ushuaia
Simply the best open air venue in the world, Ushuaia is 21st century outside clubbing at its absolute finest. Set in beautiful surroundings, a hands in the air unbeatable atmosphere, lasers, fire, lights, airplanes flying in overhead, cold air cannons and a massive cinematic screen pumping out visuals. The biggest names in dance music such as Armin van Buuren, Avicii, David Guetta, Hardwell and Ingrosso/Axwell hosted weekly events here in 2014, so expect more of the same in 2015.
4. Café Mambo
Café Mambo and the sunset strip are the main jewel in San Antonio’s crown. No Ibiza trip is complete without watching the famous sunset at Café Mambo. In 2014, Mambo celebrated their 20th birthday, and had some great events including Fatboy Slim, Radio 1 weekend, Mambo In The Mix as well as hosting world class DJs on a nightly basis.
5. Cream @ Amnesia
Another massive name celebrating their 20th year on the island in 2014 was Cream. Cream Ibiza’s Thursday nights at Amnesia are simply legendry. To host a weekly party on the island for 20 years is phenomenal. It is easily one of the best parties on the island, if not the world. Lasers, air cannons, banging trance and house, the best up for it crowd on the island. 20 more years of the same please Cream Ibiza!
6. The people
Ibiza is the island of choice in which the party people of the world congregate for their the annual pilgrimage of decadence and debauchery. 2014 was no different. A hedonistic and cosmopolitan crowd from the likes of Britain, mainland Spain, Italy, Germany, France, America and Australia amongst various others provided a great atmosphere on the island during summer 2014.
7. Es Vedra and Formentera
If you wanted away from the clubbing side of things then Es Vedra and Formentera were two great chill out destinations in 2014. These are two separate islands just off Ibiza. Es Vedra, an uninhabited island is up close large and impressive. Standing 400 metres high, it is said to be the third most magnetic spot on the planet (after the north pole and Bermuda Triangle). It is well known for giving its visitors a positive healing and energy, and of course its famous stories, including the likes of various UFO sightings, and parts of the island being used to build the Egyptian pyramids! Formentera, just South of Ibiza has pristine white beaches and crystal clear blue waters. We’d more than recommend a day spent on Formentera for its amazing beaches and stunning waters, laidback atmosphere, local charm, bars and restaurants.
8. The tunes
Ibiza 2014 was the year its anthems crossed over heavily into the mainstream. There were some great tracks from all genres on the island this summer, but some of our favourites included the likes of Eric Prydz – Liberate, Oliver $ & Jimi Jules – Pushing On, Watermät – Bullit, Kiesza – Hideaway, Ten Walls – Walking with Elephants, Wankelmut & Emma Louise – My Head Is A Jungle (MK Remix), Kernkraft 400 – Zombie Nation (W&W remix), John Legend – All of Me (Dash Berlin Rework), Gareth Emery feat. Bo Bruce – U (Bryan Kearney Remix), London Grammar – Hey Now (Arty remix) and Chvrches – Tether (Eric Prydz Private Remix) amongst many others!
9. Ibiza Rocks
Ibiza Rocks hotel in San Antonio is a great open air venue with a festival atmosphere, with a weekly crowd who are up and ready for a good old sing along. The Ibiza Rocks brand provide strong line ups, they’re spot on every time. They know their crowd and they give them what they want. 2014 summer seen the likes of Lily Allen, Jake Bugg, Ed Sheeran, Bastille and The Kooks gigs all provide memorable nights. We can’t wait to see what line ups they can have to offer for us in 2015 for their 10th season on the island.
10. Ibiza Rocks House (Pikes Hotel)
